Kunstenoverleg Ghent is committed to realizing concrete actions which contribute to the artistic representation of Ghent, to be a platform for general issues in Ghent’s policies about art and culture. Kunstenoverleg Ghent wants to be a partner for the local government and a bridge between sectors such as education, tourism, economy, welfare and others. Because all participants are convinced that art and culture play an essential role in Ghent’s transition as a city.
What to do after the kick off?
Every year, a ‘Grand Assembly' will be organized, the first of which took place on 2 October 2019. There, “action groups” were created, the aim of these groups will be to force breakthroughs around concrete actions. A few examples: night-time public transport, a wider range of after-school cultural offerings, whether or not the city of Ghent considers becoming the European Capital of Culture, a better distribution of the cultural activities between the center and the neighborhoods around the city.
During the Grand Assembly, an advising committee of 16 members was appointed. The committee will function as a guide for the action groups. Every year, one third of this group will be replaced.
Photographer Michiel Devijver was present to provide us with the amazing pictures of the event.
